The 50' oak framed Obelisk was originally designed in steel by architect Peter Smithson. We re-designed the structure following his principals with engineer John Beveridge to create this intriguing structure that stands in the grounds of Hadspen House, Somerset. After overcoming the structural challenges, we milled and cut the frame on site using oak planted on the estate by the current owner's grandfather. Local specialists Paul Bannell Engineering worked closely with us to provide the complex stainless steelwork that makes the structure stand up. (Somerset)
