Abingdon School Boathouse

We were commissioned to design a new oak frame for the replacement boathouse for Abingdon School on the banks of the Thames.

This frame was constructed in two halves. The first half was framed up on site by an international event that involved some 80 carpenters from all over the globe. This part of the frame was erected by hand using a gin pole, rope, block and tackle and all the volunteers.

The Timber Frame Company prepared the remaining frame in our workshops, and erected it with a crane.

This is our biggest oak frame yet, some 100 feet long and 38 feet wide. It provides excellent storage and workshops for nearly 2 kilometres of boats as well as a spacious 1st floor for training and coaching seminars that leads to the large balcony with far reaching views over the Thames.
